KYPHOSIS
It is known as hump/humpback in public. When a person is standing from the side it is seen that it is tilted forward. There are several types of kyphosis. The most common ones:
Congenital Kyphosis: Congenital (present at birth) spinal anomaly. It usually becomes prominent during adolescence.
Scheuermann’s Kyphosis: It occurs mostly in young age groups and girls. The reason is unclear.
Kyphosis Due to Ankylosing Spondylitis: It can start and progress in the middle ages. It is a rheumatic disease.
Latrogenic Kyphosis: May occur after spinal surgery.
Traumatic Kyphosis: It develops due to spinal fracture.
Kyphosis due to spine infections: May be caused by tuberculosis in particular.
Why kyphosis requires surgical treatment?
First, the patient may request this procedure for cosmetic reasons.Other reasons may be decreased lung capacity and risk of heart failure as the kyphotic deformity progresses. Another important reason is that the kyphotic deformity progresses so much that the patient is even unable to look forward clearly and need to be operated so that he can look normally. These operations take a long time during the surgery and has an amount of risks therefore requires serious surgical experience.
